Confirming alliance with Congress, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav today said that there will be an alliance with Congress for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Akhilesh Yadav confirmed this during a press conference in Moradabad today. As per some reports, SP is likely to give 17 seats to Congress and will contest the rest of the seats in Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh said that an official announcement will be made this evening.
“All is well that ends well… Yes, there will be an alliance. There is no conflict. Everything will be out and clear soon… All is well that ends well…” Akhilesh said on being asked about an alliance with Congress.
The SP and the Congress are partners in the INDIA bloc, formed by opposition parties to take on the BJP in the upcoming general elections.
Earlier on Monday, Akhilesh had said that he will join Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra once seat-sharing negotiations conclude. This declaration follows SP’s offer of 17 seats to Congress, up from its initial offer of 11. Amidst these developments, SP revealed 11 additional candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, sparking interest in political circles reminiscent of the deadlock between Congress and TMC in West Bengal. Akhilesh’s decision contrasts with his earlier stance, indicating a shift in strategy as talks with Congress continue. Meanwhile, SP’s impatience with Congress’ delay in finalizing seat-sharing reflects growing tensions, with SP asserting its readiness with a finalized candidate list.
